Bertha is actually an easier song to learn and perform than Me & My Uncle. Garcia ripped it up during the lead break in 1971 on his Strat!

A simple tune to begin a set with to gain ones musical footing (so to speak).

Simple is good.

I prefer simple to (unnecessarily) over-complicated.

Oh, for those who didn't know, John Peel was (in)famous 'progressive' (?) radio jock back here in the good old UK. Infamous/progressive as you could be on the BBC back in those days (well, he used to play 'The Dead' for starters). Apologies for being vague.

why do you say Bertha is easier than Me & My Uncle? Not that either one is especially difficult...M&MU is as straight forward as it gets, Bertha has tempo shifts...
